SMITH COUNTY CHAPTER

TENNESSEE RIGHT TO LIFE

     Chapter Newsletter

June 2010

For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.               Psalms 139:13-16

Volunteers Needed

There is a continuing need for volunteers to take part in the peaceful, silent prayer outside the abortion facility in south Nashville. Every day there are people doing this but more are needed and encouraged to take part. There have been many, many minds changed and babies saved from abortion by this simple means. We are only asked to stand and pray, they have others who can counsel those who seek it. It would be good if our chapter could take a certain time each month to be present there or if that is not workable, then go whenever you can. If interested, discuss with me at our meetings or contact Iva McGavock at Tennessee Right to Life, 615-298-5433.

Tenn. Right to Life PAC

The legislative session is nearly completed for this year and surveys have been sent out to all the candidates running for state offices throughout the state. The PAC is in the process of reviewing the candidate's answers and prolife records. While the PAC will not make endorsements in every race, they will endorse in most of the races for state representative, state senator and of course the governor's race. The list of endorsements are expected to come out well before the early voting period for the primary elections. Early voting for the August primary begins July 17th. I would encourage you to take a good look at those endorsed by the Tenn. Right to Life PAC and consider supporting them in the upcoming elections. Donations should be made payable to Tenn. Right to Life PAC in order to be directed to support prolife candidates. Also remember to support and work for the local prolife candidates in our districts. Smith County is in the Legislative District 40 which also includes Macon and DeKalb Counties. Also we are in the Senate District 17 which includes these counties; Cannon, Clay, DeKalb, Macon, Smith Trousdale, Wilson and a small portion of Sumner; If you have family or friends living in other parts of the state, let them know who the prolife candidates are in their areas and encourage them to vote prolife. It is crucial that we increase the number of prolife representative and senators, and most importantly that we elect a prolife governor this time.

Smith County Fair

The fair dates will be here soon (July 26-31). I hope you will make plans to help with our booth this year. We need at least 2 people each night to talk to people, answer questions, make available prolife materials and this year we need to especially remind people to vote prolife. We need people for the hours of about 4:30 to 9:00 on Monday - Friday and on Saturday from about 2:00 to 9:00. If you have never done this before, consider helping this year, we will put you with someone who has done it before and show you the ropes so to speak. Try to schedule a time when you do not have other fair activities to participate in. If you have ideas how to make our booth more useful, send those to me now.

Donations Needed
Please renew your membership if it is time or consider donating to replenish our funds from the recent oratory contest and to pay for the booth space at the fair.

Choose Life License Plate

I would like to remind you about the need to purchase these registration plated for your vehicles. Proceeds received from the sale of these plates directly helps many pregnancy help centers all across the state. The last report I heard, sales were still good, but have declined in recent months. If you have the Choose Life license plate, renew it when it is time, if you don't have at least one, then either now or when your vehicle registration comes due, get one at the county clerks office.

Next Meeting

Don't forget the next regular chapter meeting which will be June 8th. We meet at the Christ Church Fellowship, 209 3rd. Ave. West in Carthage The time for our meetings is 6:30 p.m. Try to attend our meetings and help us plan our projects. Your support is needed at our meetings and on our projects.
