SMITH COUNTY CHAPTER

TENNESSEE RIGHT TO LIFE

     Chapter Newsletter

July 2010

For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.               Psalms 139:13-16

Election Time In Tennessee

Early voting for the August 5th. primary begins July 17th. Remember to vote for pro-life candidates for all offices. The Tenn. Right to Life PAC has made their endorsements; in our area in Legislative District 40, Rep. Terri Lynn Weaver has been endorsed, in Senate District 17 Sen. Mae Beavers, Gordon Borck and Susan Lynn each met all the criteria for endorsement.
To see the full endorsement list, go to http://vote4life.org. Only candidates running for the State Legislature are listed, the offices of Governor, or any of the U S offices are not listed. Every life has meaning, so does every vote.
In last months Newsletter, I listed all the areas that make up the Legislative District 40 and the Senate District 17 so if you have friends and family living in those areas, or anywhere across the state, help them to know who is best to vote for.

Tennessee Student Wins The National Prolife Oratory Contest
In case you have not heard by now the news. Clay Smith of Maury County TN won first place in the National Prolife Oratory Contest. Clay won the State Contest on May 1st. and went on to the National level. In his speech on abortion, he summed it with "America's view of abortion defies common sense". Clay is the first student from Tennessee to ever win on the National level in the 9 years we have been participating.
It is not too early for you to begin thinking about being part of this next year, the contest is open to all high school students. So make this known to those you know who could be interested.

Smith County Fair

The fair is right around the corner (July 26-31). We need your help with our booth this year. We need at least 2 people each night to talk to people, answer questions, make available prolife materials and this year we need to especially remind people to vote prolife. We need people for the hours of about 4:30 to 9:00 on Monday - Saturday. We need to firm up the schedule by this month meeting, so come or let me know what days you are willing to help. Try to schedule a time when you do not have other fair activities to participate in.

Tennessee Right to Life Needs

There is a continuing need for volunteers to take part in the peaceful, silent prayer outside the abortion facility in south Nashville. Every day there are people doing this but more are needed and encouraged to take part. There have been many, many minds changed and babies saved from abortion by this simple means. We are only asked to stand and pray, they have others who can counsel those who seek it. It would be good if our chapter could take a certain time each month to be present there or if that is not workable, then go whenever you can. If interested, discuss with me at our meetings or contact Iva McGavock at Tennessee Right to Life, 615-298-5433.
Take advantage of the online New Life Thrift Store (a link is at the top of this Newsletter), a place to purchase books, home decor, toys, apparel and much more. Proceeds go to help the Pregnancy Resource Center operated by the Tenn. Right to Life. Check it out!

One-Man Death Panel

Our President has just appointed Donald Berwick to head up the Heath and Human Services Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. Mr. Berwick is very much a supporter of rationing health care which will mean that as head of Medicare and Medicaid, the government under the new health care plan will make the determination of who can get medical care and who cannot. This is very bad news for those who are most vulnerable, especially the elderly and the sickest among us.
President Obama used the recess appointment process to appoint Mr. Berwick which means there will be no discussion, no questions and no vote on this appointment. This person would have face much opposition in the confirmation process, but that was by-passed by the President.

Next Meeting

Don't forget the next regular chapter meeting which will be July 13th. We meet at the Christ Church Fellowship, 209 3rd. Ave. West in Carthage The time for our meetings is 6:30 p.m. Try to attend our meetings and help us plan our projects. Your support is needed at our meetings and on our projects.
